Devonne Canady, brings over 15 years of C-Suite leadership in the healthcare industry to the management team. In her role as the CEO of Melanin MicroChips, Devonne Canady brings a wealth of executive leadership, strategic vision, and organizational prowess, honed during her 30-year tenure at Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut and as the Executive Director of EIR Boxing & Fitness Academy, a registered 501(c)3 not for profit boxing gym.
Ms. Canady, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Quinnipiac University, has contributed her expertise and skills to Yale New Haven Hospital committees like the Pediatric and Newborn Intensive Care Unit Transport Teams, as well as the Safety Coach. This mirrors her dedication to safety, precision, and meticulous attention to detail – qualities of utmost importance in the semiconductor field.
With a foundation in Respiratory Therapy, she possesses a profound understanding of healthcare intricacies and regulatory standards, providing a nuanced leadership approach well-suited for a technology-driven industry. Her key skills include management, operations, sales, and finance. She has also worked with several startup companies and has solid experience in organizing all the issues associated with early-stage companies. She also has tremendous strategic planning skills. She has provided strong initiatives through greater and improved services, improved community relations, and achieved best in class status for services. Furthermore, Ms. Canady demonstrates financial acumen by meticulously managing records of grants and expenditures in the nonprofit sector for many years.

Sydney Simpkins, currently the Owner/Principal Consultant at Sydney Simpkins Associates (SSA), brings a wealth of experience in contract compliance and project oversight to her role as VP and Chief Operating Officer at Melanin MicroChips. With a track record of successful management in diverse projects, including The Strand Development and Washington Street Elementary School, located in New Haven, Connecticut, Sydney’s expertise in certified payroll review, CHRO Affirmative Action Plan preparation, and regulatory compliance aligns seamlessly with the operational demands of a semiconductor assembly and packaging small business. Her extensive background in overseeing construction projects, ensuring regulatory adherence, and resolving compliance concerns positions her as a seasoned professional well-equipped to navigate the complexities of Melanin MicroChips’ operations and contribute to its success in the semiconductor industry.
Ms. Simpkins’ educational background, including a Master of Science in Urban Planning and Community Development from Southern Connecticut State University and a Bachelor of Science in Human Services/Social Services from New Hampshire University, positions her as a well-rounded professional. Dr. Michele Burgess brings a wealth of expertise to her role as Chief Business Officer and VP of Marketing at Melanin Microchips. Her extensive experience spans across marketing, operations, program coordination, and management, making her a valuable asset to the company. Her extensive career at AT&T, IBM, Duke University, and Durham Technical Community College spans various roles, showcasing her ability to navigate complex responsibilities. Her background includes programming, systems analysis, auditing, compliance, and college instruction of various business-related courses, developing both online and traditional curricula.
Dr. Michele Burgess’s intrigue with the Semiconductor Microchips industry traces back to her tenure in the Networking Hardware Division at IBM in Research Triangle Park, NC. Drawing on her diverse experience, she has eagerly embraced the opportunity to contribute to the startup venture of Melanin MicroChips. Recognizing the critical importance of the U.S. maintaining its competitive edge and leadership in the Semiconductor industry.
For over 25 years, Dr. Michele Burgess has been an active member and board participant in various community organizations in Durham, NC. She holds a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University and a Bachelor’s Degree in American Studies from Douglas College/Rutgers University. Dr. Burgess brings a unique blend of academic expertise and community dedication to her endeavors.
